Cover Letter Applying For Two Positions In The Same Company – Template

Applying for two positions is a tricky proposition. In the first place, not many companies allow people to hold down two sets of responsibilities. Scheduling and distribution of the scope of work for each function will be a challenge. Most businesses want specialization particularly if the designation requires a high level of competency.

But there are companies who do job integration. The idea is to streamline job positions into one designation if there are common aspects in the scope of work. Often these require a higher degree of qualification in terms of attainment, certification and experience. Usually, this type of designation will not attract many applicants because of the lack of requisite skills and experience. Job expectations may be quite on the high side.

In you cover letter, you must state why you applied to their company. Your reason or reasons must be relevant to your decision to apply for two positions. This is a good way to set up the content of your application. Again, include the name of a contact or referrer who is in good standing with the company either as an associate or a client.

A contact or a referrer will always put the recipient at ease.

What will you do if the company or organization you are applying to did not specify in the post that both jobs are integrated? You must use the first paragraph to drive home your point why you believe both positions should be held by only one person…you! It may create a compelling argument; something which the recipient did not think of when the company posted the job.

In the main body, you must go into great detail on you qualifications that are related to both jobs. Your approach must be to identify experiences, skills and competencies from your history that would support your contention that these positions are inter-related. Draw specific incidents from your history which led you to conclude that the effectiveness of one skill will be subdued without the other. If possible, punctuate your cover letter with snippets of ideas on how you plan to manage both job positions. Hold off on giving out too much information on your approach. The idea is to inject compelling ideas and spark interest in your value proposition.

If you are successful, you can be rest assured of a return call.

Always end your cover letter with respect, courtesy and guarded optimism.

Dear Mr. Jordan,

ABC Management Consultants is widely regarded as the best property development firm in the country. Your reputation in providing top notch services in property evaluation and research remains unparalleled in the industry. I recently learned through a close friend, Mr. Thomas Valentine who represents one of your clients, TGH Finance, that there was an opening for two positions: Market Researcher and Program Director, I knew had to seize the opportunity to apply for both positions because their scope of work is inter-related. You cannot maximize the performance of one department without the other.

I started my career in Market Research straight after college with YLS Financial Consultants. After five (5) years in the firm, my services were acquired by DRK Foundation, an organization funded by the government and other charitable organizations. During my 10 year tenure at DRK Foundation, I grew to understand that market research will; be rendered useless unless there is proper execution. Effective implementation will not be possible unless everyone on-board has an appreciable knowledge of the research plan and remains fully committed to carry its provisions out. While DRK remains successful, I believe its results could have been better had there been a stronger relationship between research and program management.

In the last two years, my group was given the opportunity to implement the strategies by merging these related disciplines. As you have seen from the publicized reports, the move yielded positive results with DRK generating a 65% increase in net income. These numbers have validated my theory but the Foundation remains non-committal to the normal course of action which should be to integrate the responsibilities.

Thus, I am writing to you and offer my expertise and experience in managing these positions and carry out what has already been proven successful over at DRK Foundation.

I am confident that my research experience in combination with my passion, dedication and commitment to this highly specialized field will greatly contribute to the on-going success of ABC Management Consultants.

Thank you very much for this opportunity and I remain hopeful that my application shall merit your consideration.

Yours sincerely,
Matthew Smith
