Advice for Your Architect-Engineer Job Interview

architect engineer job interview

The architect is the mind behind beautiful infrastructures and buildings. If you want to make your mark as one of the most prolific architects in Virginia, then here are some tips that can help you get the job you are gunning for.

Have A Killer Architectural Engineer Resume

The resume is extremely important to getting the interview.

If it’s been a long time since you’ve read your Architecture books, now it’s time to start scanning them. Most employers look for Architects who still know the basics of design and infrastructure, even if they have numerous years of experience.

Obtain Some Important Information About Your Future Company

It is imperative for any Architect to learn more about the company or firm he wants to work for. If you want to get the job, you need to have background knowledge of the firm’s leaders, projects, specialties, goals, among many others. By conducting this search you can determine if you are the right person for the job.

Do Your Homework

While waiting for your interview, you need to work on the questions the employer might hurdle at you. Here are some queries you can practice with your wife, daughter or son:

  • Why did you want to become an Architect?
  • What types of infrastructures do you specialize in?
  • Can you give an example building you designed that meets LEED standards?
  • What projects have you completed?
  • As the team leader of a certain project, how do you supervise and direct your members?
  • How do you make sure that you meet the needs of the client without bending architectural ethics and compromising the overall welfare of the company?
  • How do you make sure that the project is completed before or after the specified deadline?
  • How do you mediate problems between the clients and the contractors?

After the interview is finished, you too can ask your own questions. Here are some inquiries you can ask, in case you are still missing out on some of the company’s details:

  • What are the usual work hours of a Senior Architect?
  • Is there a certain contractor company I need to work with?
  • How many members would I have for my team?

Drop a Note of Gratitude for the Opportunity Given

Not a lot of Architects will be given the same opportunity as you have been. Make sure to show the employer that you are grateful for his time by sending him a note of appreciation. This is a great way to show your professionalism. At the same time, it’s a subtle way of making a follow-up on your status – if you’re hired or not.
